A TRIBUTE TO HEROS

The Lady stands there
with tears in her eyes
weeping for her country
and the heros who died.

She watched as they entered
the buildings that day
hoping and praying
many lives would be saved.

She watched each man
as he faded from sight-
the smoke hiding each
from the day's early light.

She anxiously awaited
each one's return
as the smoke rose higher
and the buildings burned.

Her torch was lowered
as she realized
although lives were saved
many heros had died.
