| Four years ago I was nearly homeless when God opened the doors for me to have an apartment of my own. There I was a day or two before moving in and all I owned was a mattress, a secretary, and a table chair in the way of furniture.
I was told by St. Vincent de Paul's that I needed to apply to Social Services for a voucher before they could help me. God's guidance and favor was with me from the very first step. I live in an area where public transportation is poor. However, from the moment I began the 1/2 mile walk to the bus, I had His grace. Not only did I manage the walk, but the bus connections were minutes apart. If that were all that happened, it would have been awesome. I arrived at the department of Social Services about 1/2 hour before it opened. While waiting for the doors to open a young woman was standing there. She was anxious and said so. I understood those feelings. I knew the humbling effect that this process involved. I was prompted to assist her in anyway I could. Through out the morning God's favor was with me. I was treated with respect and my needs were met reasonably quickly. Through out this time I assisted her with her paper work and we began talking. I was at a point where I needed to get to a thrift shop, arrange for delivery of the furniture and be at the new apartment when it came time for its arrival. She offered to take me where I needed. When the first thrift store did not have what I needed, she took me to the second thrift store. Then when they said they could deliver the stuff to the apartment later that day, she said she would take me there.
Upon arrival to my new apartment, we exchanged phone numbers. Later, when I called her to thank her, I never got her and she never called me. In one day God had provided me with everything I needed and the means to get it. Now I know that many would mark the experience up to coincidence, but to me, that woman was an angel...... |
