Jesus' Blood |
"I wash my hands of His blood," Pilate said at last, actually dipping his hands into a basin of water. "I am innocent of the blood of this just Man."
Then the group, misled by their scheming leaders, in an insane cry which they did not realize was the worst that had ever come from human throats, shrieked their deluded responsibility: "Let His blood be on our heads, and on our children's heads!"
Seeing that he must satisfy the people, Pilate then, with great
reluctance, confirmed the death sentence.
And when Judas saw what had happened because of his faithlessness,
he returned the thirty pieces of silver to the priests, but they
refused to take them into the temple, saying that the money was
stained with blood.

Overcome with remorse at last, Judas went out of the city alone,
unhappiest of men, and put an end to his life. He committed suicide
by hanging himself.
