Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say unto you that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father, who is in heaven. Matthew 18: 10
My husband and I worked at a Christian children's home for
a period of 5 years recently. During that time I felt like it
was very important to instill in the children just how much God
really loved them . For you see the kids came from broken homes;
family members were in prison or they didn't have anyone they
could count on to take care of them. They seemed so lost when
we first came. I made it a point to say my prayers so the kids
could see that we depended on the Lord for our every need. One
afternoon I started praying for our home to get fresh beef. Most
of our food came from donations from area churches and we had
been eating pork but very little else. I told the kids that my
Bible said that God was the God of the cattle on a thousand hills
and I just asked him for one of his cows. I had a young child
that had never had a t-bone steak and I felt like she had given
up all she had and God wanted her to know how much he loved her
and the other kids. The kids heard us pray for this and the same
week we received 4 orders of beef. They were so surprised. One
of the older girls said "You mean God loves us so much he
will give us something like that?" I told her God loved her
so special that he wanted her to know that . She then said "Well,
if God loves us so much will he give us other things?" and
I said, all you need to do is be specific and ask God for your
needs and then she said "Even sugar coated cereal?"
I thought for a minute then realized that God wanted to reveal
himself to these kids even though it was sugar coated cereal.
Tiffany bowed her head and said " Dear, God we need some
Captain Crunch." My husband said under his breath (why couldn't
they pray for raisin bran) . They went on to school and later
that afternoon the administrator called for my husband and I to
come to the pantry and put up some groceries that had come in.
When I walked in I started crying. I counted over 30 boxes of
Captain Crunch.
The home has been there since 1940 and they only get a handful
of boxes of any sugar coated cereals.
This taught the girls that God even cares about the little things.
This was only one of many such incidents.
