I believe that John Orsborn who was in Cincinnatti, Hamilton County, Miami Twsp
might have been the father of my Caleb I but I haven't any proof of that.

I have checked census records for that period and he is the only one who was there whose children's ages would have matched that of my Caleb among a few other clues
that I found. I will reserve showing him as Caleb's father until I have further proof.
Therefore, I will begin with Caleb I.

I have been unable to learn much about Caleb 1, My Great Grandfather or about Martha, my Great Grandmother, except for a few facts which I will set out here. Caleb's parents were born in New Jersey and Martha's parents were born in North Carolina. Caleb I was a farmer. He married Martha, possibly, in March or May of 1848. I have reason to believe this was their wedding date because of a date or dates written in the Orsborn family Bible that was in the possession of Jess, oldest son, therefore, considering the date of birth for Caleb II, it must be the date he married Martha. I believe that March 25, was the dates the bans were posted and that May 25th, 1848 was their wedding date. he or she had written in the same area of the Bible, "To Wife," which was the expression used to say you had married someone in those days, eg; "I have taken so and so to wife." There was also another name written there which was William P. Fulorny. This was, possibly, the person who married them or, perhaps, one of their witnesses.

You will note the difference in spelling of the surname above. Jess and the other children stopped using the "r" after O in the Orsborn name, therefore, for any one wishing to check records on these individuals, I have spelled the names in the manner of choice of each of them, eg: Caleb Orsborn I-Caleb Osborn II. Edith Eaves was given the Orsborn family Bible by Jess. Jess informed her that it had belonged to his parents but I believe that it belonged, originally, to Caleb I and Frances because of the dates and names referred to earlier in this family note sheet. I have assumed the place of death for both Caleb and Martha. Green Pond Cemetery, where they are buried, is just outside of Milton, Illinois.

Edith was kind enough to give me the marriage certificate that was sewed in the Bible, I am certain, by Frances giving the date of her marriage to Caleb II, etc. It has been and will always be one of my most cherished possessions, for it cannot be replaced.

Green Pond cemetery is in Montezuma, Pike County, Illinois.
