So Close But God Was Closer

I have a friend whose father is a bail bondsman. It is dangerous work but last week he came so close to death that only the hand of God could have saved him. You may call it coincidence or luck but I call it intervention by a God so great that He can protect us under any circumstances or conditions. My friend's father's name is Frank.

Frank had bonded out an old gentleman and was taking him to stay on his (Frank's) house boat behind his house because he had no place to stay. A hitch hiker was trying to get a ride so Frank stopped to pick him up. Frank had recognized him as a man who had skipped bond but the hitch hiker did not recognize Frank who had intentions of taking him to jail. About two blocks from the jail, the man asked Frank where he was taking him. Frank said, "To jail. You skipped out on the bond I posted for you." Frank had a gun which he is authorized to use for protection in his business, and the man wrestled it away from him and they struggled. The man shot Frank in the left arm leaving it useless so Frank was attempting to defend himself with his right arm. When the bullet entered his arm, it somehow deflected and lodged in his lung. During the struggle, the cylinder that holds the shells came open and the man snapped it back in place and put it to Frank's head and pulled the trigger. But, thanks to a merciful God, the chamber held the spent bullet casing that he had already shot into Frank's body. There were four chambers that held a live bullet but it closed on the empty one. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Frank had already told the other man to get out of the car so he wouldn't be shot so he was outside of the car. The man with whom Frank had been struggling pushed him out of the car and left with it leaving Frank on the ground bleeding. The old gentleman placed a belt around Frank's arm to stop the bleeding. He was air lifted to a local hospital and told they could not remove the bullet for fear of causing further damage. A bullet that is not removed can travel through the body and lodge in a vital spot such as the heart, however, they said they did not expect the bullet to move and do any more damage being the type it is. He has been released from the hospital.
